Introducing Ourselves

We are Jared and Helen Hodgson.  We founded Hope at Home in response to the enormous need for support for people who have survived human trafficking in the UK.  Along with our three boys, we are hosts ourselves and understand the realities and rewards of hosting vulnerable people in our family home.  We are passionate to see an end to modern day slavery and, with Jared’s background in hospitality and Helen’s background in community development, we make a great team!

About Hope at Home

Survivors of human trafficking are vulnerable.  With no formal support, they are prey to re-trafficking and vulnerable to homelessness which only serves to add to their trauma and sense of isolation.  At Hope at Home we believe that everyone deserves the chance to be nurtured so they can become independent themselves.  We facilitate voluntary adult to adult placements between hosts and survivors of human trafficking within the UK.  We have robust procedures to ensure safety for everyone involved and we make sure our hosts are DBS checked, trained and supported before we place anyone with them.

“Without dignity, identity is erased.”  Laura Hillenbrand, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption.

Our mission is to see people’s dignity restored and independence rebuilt in order for them to make choices for themselves, contribute to the wider society and bring hope to others.
